The difference between Chase Freedom Unlimited and Chase Freedom Flex credit card

The way these two cards rewards are structured is the key differentiator. Chase Freedom Flex requires users to activate combined categories each quarter to earn cashback. The 5% cashback bonus is capped at $1,500 in combined purchases, beyond which you get Cashback at 1%.

Both cards offer similar cashback for travel booking through Ultimate rewards portal, drugstore purchases and dining. Freedom Unlimited differs by giving you 1.5% cash back for all other purchases vs the 1% which is offered by Freedom Flex.

Freedom Unlimited credit card offers the same welcome bonus as Freedom Flex.

You can earn a welcome bonus of $200 after you spend $500 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.

These two cards are often compared against each other whereas they are good companions for each other. Freedom Flex can be used to earn cashback in targeted categories as per your spending each quarter and Freedom Unlimited can earn points everywhere else.

      Drawbacks
